This theme was a perfect excuse to pull some burlap out from my fabric stash and go from there. Nate requested pie instead of a cake so I made my second and third pie ever! (Ok, so I burnt the crust on the apple pie and the berry pie was runny... But they were TASTY!)
Nate had got me those flowers for our date night on Friday and I thought they were the perfect addition to the tablescape. My favorite part were the jars and paper straws. They were so rustic, charming, and adorable. (Yes, I do know this was a boy birthday party. I still think things should be cute. Good thing Nate doesn't mind.)
The guests all arrived wearing flannel, boots, and knit beanies. We kind of looked like a bunch of hipsters instead of lumber jacks... Oh the joys of living in Portland.
And guess what, I got no photos of guests. Every time I thought about it I was in the middle of a conversation. Even though I'm a blogger, I definitely prefer to live in the moment, rather than taking pictures of the moment. I think I need a photographer to follow me around in my daily life. Then I'd have pictures. ;-)
Have any of you thrown any themed parties recently?

I love the straws, so cute! The pie looks yummy too :)

hahah i love that the "lumberjacks" looked like hipsters in the end. oh portland! i know what you mean about not wanting to take photos all the time-- it's a way to keep the memories, but it also gets in the way of the conversation. eventually i guess we'll find a balance!
ReplyDeleteThat looks awesome!! So nice. Great idea.
ReplyDeleteFor my daughter's 1st birthday I threw a Mickey and Minnie Mouse themed party, but I don't like the conventional commercial decor so I made everything myself, including their faces out of cardstock. It was time consuming but I was proud!
Yummy and those straws are so cute!

Hello from the blog hop! I'm like you - I tend to forget to take photos of guests when there are so many cute details going on!
ReplyDeleteSo much fun! We are doing mason jars & paper straws for Cash's party, too! What a great theme! {Oh & my hubs wishes he could grow a beard, too ;)}
ReplyDeletehipster or lumber jack is definitely one of my favorite games to play in portland!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea! And perfect for winter.
ReplyDeleteWe had a valentine's day party last month. It was theme-less, because I am lazy, but sometime I'd love to throw a for-real themed-out party! i'm inspired!
ahhh LOVE themed parties! Last year for my birthday, we did an international themed party! We told people to dress up like whatever country they wanted. We had all sorts of international food. I put of pictures of myself and others in different countries, and people had to guess what country we were in! We also put a big map up on the wall, and people took a star sticker and put it on the countries they had been to. It was So fun! Actually my birthday is this coming saturday and we're having a 1960's Mad Men party. We got packs of fake candy cigarettes as party favors, busting out the record player, and all dressing to the nines!!! I'll have to try and post pics! I LOVE your lumberjack idea though, that is So cute girl!!
ReplyDeletePaper straws are ALWAYS a good idea. :) As you know... I am obsessed with theme parties. It has been a long while since I've been able to really get into a theme though. Soon! Great job on the party!
ReplyDeleteI have never made pie in my life, and I still probably wouldn't if my husband asked! I would just try to find him a good store bought kind :)
ReplyDeleteYours look great though for being new at pie making. It's one of those things that is just too intimidating for me.
where did you find those paper straws? i have been trying to find them for forever!
ReplyDeleteCute! What a fun theme!
ReplyDeleteI love themed parties! I had an Asian themed party for my college graduation last year since my major was Mandarin Chinese. I don't think my husband would let me throw him a themed party, though!
ReplyDeletehaha. portland is just a big ol' bunch of hipster lumberjacks:-)
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a good idea for a theme. The pie looks delicious! I agree about taking pics. I always want to but it is hard to do that and to talk to friends/enjoy yourself. I wish I had a friend who loved to take pics as much as I do so that I wouldn't always have to worry about doing it.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute themed party, I wish I could do one too! Great job :)
ReplyDeleteI just followed you on GFC. If you want, we can follow each other on other platforms. Just let me know :)

We never do big birthday things for ourselves but now that we have a baby I'm practically having a stroke thinking of themes for his first birthday party. All I know so far is that I WILL have straws like that. Even if he can't drink out of them.
