Team in Training

As I said in January, every month I will be featuring a great cause to become a part of.  This month, my friend Kayla, who blogs at Fit Life Forward, asked me to share what she's doing.  Check out her blog and contact her if you want more information.  Here's the info from Kayla herself.

After completing my 5th marathon in October I am more excited than ever to start training for the next one - but this time I want it to be different. Believe me - no matter how many times you run a marathon you are still nervous and excited - but I want another first. I’ve decided to run for something bigger than just myself - on May 5th when I toe the start line of the Vancouver BC Full Marathon I will not just be there to prove my dedication and hard work in training and completing a 26.2 mile race - I will be there to support cancer research.

I’ve joined Team in Training, a group where its members are dedicated to training for endurance events while fundraising to create a healthier life for themselves and others. TnT donates the raised money to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society which has funded a tremendous amount of research for blood cancers. Through its 440,000 participants, TnT has raised over $1 billion for LLS. We have even been able to see the success of TnT locally - in 2001 a grant from LLS was given to OHSU to create a drug that turns off the signal of a protein known to cause cancer!

I will run the Vancouver BC Marathon in honor of my Grandmother Catherine, a breast cancer survivor; Grandfather-in-law, Pard, who is battling cancer; and my new friend Macey who is also a cancer survivor. If there is someone in your life you would like me to run in honor of- please let me know! I would be so happy to add their name to my running jersey.

My next fundraising event is a virtual race in February. It is for runners and walkers alike with distances in the 5k, 10k and half marathon. Every participant will get a medal for completing the distance and helping to cure cancer with their donation!

Thank you for your support!  Click on the link below for more information.
